Viva con Agua South Africa Presents “Let’s Talk Period” – A New Anthem for Menstrual Hygiene Day

Date: May 28th, Menstrual Hygiene Day

In a bold and creative move to address a significant global issue, Viva con Agua South Africa is set to release a groundbreaking new song titled “Let’s Talk Period” as part of the #LetsTalkPERIOD campaign. This dynamic track, performed by the talented Bravo Le Roux and Milla Smith and produced by Shwelly M, will drop on May 28th in celebration of Menstrual Hygiene Day.

Breaking Down Stigmas with Music & Art

“Let’s Talk Period” is more than just a song; it is a powerful movement aimed at dismantling the stigmas and taboos surrounding menstruation. By fostering open dialogue, the campaign encourages a more period-friendly world, promoting understanding and acceptance. The song serves as an anthem for menstrual hygiene awareness, seeking to normalize conversations about menstruation and break the silence that often surrounds this natural bodily process.

Viva con Agua South Africa strongly believes in the power of music as a universal language that can build bridges of communication and connect people across diverse cultures and communities. By leveraging the influence of accomplished artists like Bravo Le Roux and Milla Smith, along with support from institutions such as Bridges for Music, the organization is making significant strides in menstrual health education.

The Artist Incubation

The release of “Let’s Talk Period” follows a highly successful artist incubation campaign, in association with Spier Arts Trust, GIZ and the Millerntor Gallery. This initiative has effectively utilized the universal language of art to spread a global message of menstrual hygiene and empowerment. The campaign has harnessed the creativity of artists to communicate crucial messages about menstrual health, aiming to reach a broad audience and create a lasting impact.

Afterword

The “Let’s Talk Period” campaign showcases the power of a well-aligned cause and collaboration in driving social change, with each NPO contributing through their unique expertise. From Qrate’s menstrual education workshop, to the added social experiment with Viva Con Agua hosted by the Minister of Menstruation, Candice Chirwa, in aid to Breaking Taboos, as men feel the reality of period pains.

Perhaps this kind of “Shock Therapy” is exactly what’s needed to foster empathy, understanding, and a shift in societal attitudes towards menstruation.

The campaign, although integrated and layered, finds its call to one singular point: Opening the dialogue and extending the conversation well beyond its current circle of influence, inviting everyone to join in, break the stigma, and foster a more inclusive and understanding society.

In closing, “Let’s Talk PERIOD” – and who knows? Maybe art, music, and creators have a place after all in contributing to change and making our world more period-friendly.
