Viva con Agua SA’s 2023 Journey of Recap and Activism for Positive Change.

As we bid farewell to 2023, we wanted to share some incredible moments from the year that would not have been possible without your support. Thank you for being an integral part of Viva con Agua’s journey toward a world with access to clean water and proper hygiene. Here’s a recap of our impactful projects:

Dance 4 WASH – Shaking Things Up for Clean Water and Hygiene 

Meet Bulelani, the maestro behind Dance 4 WASH! In 2023, GIZ and Viva con Agua united for a vibrant digital campaign advocating for good handwashing practices. The campaign featured dance and music to raise awareness about water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) amongst South Africa’s school children. Kids battled it out on TikTok and Instagram, joined by influencers like Kananelo, Zex Bilanglangi, Sui, and Octopizzo. The campaign’s climax featured a dance competition with the winning school, Masiyile High, winning repairs to their toilet facilities and a beautiful mural to remind the kids of the importance of WASH. This campaign reaches over 4200 children directly and more than 50 000 children digitally across South Africa.

WINS Project – Sivu’s Triumphs

Meet Sivu, the powerhouse behind the WINS Project! The Bulungula outreach stats for 2023 tells a tale of triumph. VcA was active in18 schools – restoring hygiene infrastructure and facilitating behaviour change programmes – and a total of8214 pupils reached! Hygiene sessions, community outreach, pottery training, sanitation upgrades, and water access improvements are all in the name of the game. Under Sivu’s watchful eye, the Bulungula Community Centre was restored by VcA SA and officially opened to be used freely by the community. The Bulungula Community Radio also started streaming internationally! VcA SA’s mandate of providing all people with access to water and sanitation has reached roughly 8000 people just in Bulungula alone, and messaging of the importance of access to water and good hygiene practices reached over150,000 listeners through the radio station. Sivu’s leadership is integral to VcA’s numerous water, sanitation, and hygiene initiatives.

Nina Manzi Project – Evert’s Impactful Numbers

Meet Evert, the driving force behind Nina Manzi Project! In Claremont, Salt River, and Mitchells Plain, Evert’s team provided 2808 showers and 204 laundry services in 2023. Viva Con Agua South Africa will expand their impact by launching the Nina Manzi social franchise early next year!
